TORABINEJAD developed the original product (gray MTA). A variation of the original formula of gray MTA has been introduced, often called as white MTA.
Constituents
Calcium silicate
Bismuth oxide
Calcium carbonate
Calcium sulfate
Calcium aluminate
Properties
- Longest setting time i.e, 2 hrs, 45 min.
- Compressive strength
At 24 hrs after mixing : 40 MPa
At 21 days after mixing : 67 MPa
- Radiopacity
Amalgam>MTA>Super EBA & IRM
- Solubility
Similar to amalgam and Super-EBA
- pH after mixing
Initial: 10.2
At 3 hrs: 12.5
At 168 hrs: 9.5
Gray MTA vs White MTA
Initially, Gray MTA was developed and sold as "ProRoot MTA". Later tooth colored formula was introduced due to esthetic reasons ("White MTA"). Main difference was absence of iron in latter formulation.
